GERMAN VOCABULARY CARDS BUNDLE #1

4 Resources
GERMAN FOR CHILDREN PRIMARY GERMAN KS2 GERMAN KS3 GERMAN VOCABULARY CARDS 2 SETS @ £2.00 EACH IN THE BUNDLE Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 198 beginner German words & phrases with matching English vocabulary cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for advanced beginner German learners. There are two sets of 99 beginner German words and phrases, with matching English cards, so 198 cards in each set, 396 cards in total. There is an accompanying 18-page Reference, Recall & Write workbook too. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their beginner German vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the words or phrases don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. Giving students regular and frequent opportunities to work with the cards and the written recall challenges is really effective, not only when we’re focusing on these particular vocabulary themes, but also across the school year, and even when they’re far more advanced in their learning - all learners benefit from going back to the start. My students use their recall workbooks quite a few times, simply covering previous answers. This means that prep and paper are kept to a minimum. The vocabulary groups across the two sets are as follows: Begrüßungen die Zahlen 0-40 die Tage der Woche die Monate des Jahres die vier Jahreszeiten das Wetter der Körper / die Körperteile die Farben meine Familie Alltagswörter Deutsch im Klassenzimmer Fragen und Antworten The Reference, Recall & Write books each have 18 pages. They include an alphabetical German-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. Students find them really useful as a learning support resource, and they come in very handy for quick vocabulary quizzes too. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in***German***. There are three recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One students write the English word or phrase from a German prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Two with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in German from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from German to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages - I’ve found that this really does encourage my students to think hard about their German vocabulary. There is definitely prep involved - printing and cutting out the cards, and printing / photocopying the workbooks. Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the additional prep and expense is worth it, as the cards will last in excellent conditional for years. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-use license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. These 48 challenge cards focus on conjugating German separable verbs in the present tense. They are perfect for upper KS3 German students, who are working regularly with compound sentences and more complex texts, KS4 German students preparing for German GCSE, and KS5 German who are refreshing prior knowledge. German separable verbs can be quite a challenging concept for English-speaking German learners, and I’ve found that focused practice really helps them consolidate their understanding of how to conjugate them accurately, particularly the location of the separable prefix at the end of the clause. This kind of activity really does help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their conjugation skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in German in general, and certainly in conjugating German separable verbs in the present tense in particular. The questions are differentiated, ranging in complexity and challenge, with some calling upon prior and new knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some vocabulary that students are not familiar with: these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. Other grammatical concepts are addressed in the questions too, such as gender agreement direct and indirect objects, personal pronouns and word order in German. The set comprises the following non-editable files: = 48 differentiated question cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper - laminate if possible, the cards are more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years = answer key & answer recording sheet = question card template - creating new language enables learners to apply language practically, and gives them opportunity to think about how language works Have a browse in my store for more German resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. Please read the Terms of Use. Focus on conjugating French RE verbs in the present tense. The challenge cards are perfect for advanced KS3 French and beginner KS4 French students, who are really getting to grips with the concept of conjugation. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in French in general, and certainly in conjugating French RE verbs in the present tense in particular. To get the most from the questions, I frequently look at the multiple-choice questions as a whole-group, identifying not only why there is a single correct response, but what the errors are in the other choices - identifying errors, and explaining precisely why something is inaccurate or incorrect, helps students to think about language a little more laterally, and ensures that they are thinking concepts through, rather than simply relying on learned responses. ENGLISH SPEAKING PRACTICE CARDS BUNDLE #1

5 Resources
ESL EFL ENGLISH SPEAKING PRACTICE 2 SETS OF 100 CARDS @ £2.00 EACH IN THE BUNDLE These two hundred English question and answer prompts cards are a great way of getting your students speaking in English without feeling ‘on the spot’, or worried about not getting their pronunciation and accent right in front of the whole class. The Q&A prompt cards offer structured talk opportunities, and focus on vocabulary, structures and general knowledge that is ideal for advanced beginner English into intermediate English students. My students create their own questions and answers, using the prompts as writing frames, as they begin to feel more confident about their language skills, using the Notes and Next Steps pages in the reference book to jot down their ideas. We also use the pages to note how they think their skills are developing, and how well they are beginning to understand fully both the range of vocabulary and grammatical concepts. We discuss as a whole-group to what extent they feel able to produce language spontaneously and creatively, and with little or no support or hesitation. Equally importantly, encourage students to note what steps they might reasonably take to improve in the areas that they don’t feel quite as confident about. The sets feature a range of differentiated questions and answers, addressing various aspects of English, such as forming questions, the use of various present and past tenses, word order and so on. This is really important for language learners, who often conflate the grammar and structures of their first language with that of the new language they are learning. There’s definitely a ***cultural and general information flavou***r to many of the questions in Set 2, such as What is the London Eye? and How many countries are there in the United Kingdom? The reference books are in portrait 8.5 x 11 (A4) format, and has all the question and answer prompts written in full. My students find this really useful as a longer-term learning support resource, and we also use it for whole-group pronunciation, reading out loud, listening and mini-translation activities. Students don’t have to know every single word or structure in order to understand - they will develop and enhance their vocabulary and knowledge of English by working meanings out. Having a good bilingual dictionary to hand is really useful too. Talk Time works best when students have regular and frequent opportunities to work with the cards over a longer-term series of lessons, or across a school year. I tend to have a bank of resources for students to select during free-choice learning, and they often choose these - they really are a successful alternative to more teacher-led learning, enabling students to develop more independence in their learning. The cards are really versatile: for example, the Q & A templates give students a chance to apply their knowledge practically and creatively, as they formulate questions and answers for each other. Speaking and writing are language skills that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is really beneficial. The questions are differentiated, addressing a broad range of ability, which aim to progress all learners. Tenses include present, future, near future, perfect and conditional. Question formats are likewise varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in French. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. The prompts are really versatile too, specifically with a focus on speaking and writing. Speaking: As a whole-group activity, distribute the cards among your students, one or several. Ideally, they should walk around the classroom, asking questions, and swapping cards. For pair or small-group work, students can work in a designated area. This really helps them focus closely on the language, and helps learners who are slightly less confident working with a larger group. The cards work particularly well as ice-breakers at the beginning of the school year, refreshers after vacation, prep for both new phase learning, for example intermediate to advanced intermediate, and even advanced intermediate to advanced, as well as exams. Frequent and regular engagement with language is absolutely key to successful language learning. Writing: The cards work best in pair or small-group work, where learners have access to reference resources, such as bilingual dictionaries and the internet. The latter will enable them to prepare detailed responses to questions which address general knowledge, rather than their own life. They can then transfer this knowledge to their spoken work. The prompts broadly address the following themes: college life & study; future plans; information technology; where I live; social & environmental issues; France & travel; social activity & daily life Try this free sampler: FRENCH SPEAKING & WRITING PROMPTS SAMPLER https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-speaking-and-writing-prompts-freebie-12537447 MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BON APPRENTISSAGE !

FRENCH CLASSROOM LANGUAGE POSTERS BUNDLE #1

PRIMARY FRENCH KS3 FRENCH YEAR 7 FRENCH TARGET LANGUAGE POSTERS @ £2.00 EACH IN THE BUNDLE All files are non-editable in a zipped format. They are copyright, all rights reserved. They may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. French target language display posters creating an instant introduction to 40 commonly-used expressions in your French classroom. The posters also give the learning environment a fabulous French look and feel, promoting French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your learners. They introduce learners to a range simple everyday language in French from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with both the ‘look’ of French words, and how sounds are represented in the written form. The language is simple and effective, suitable for absolute beginners. I use the posters to promote use of the target language in contexts that we meet frequently and regularly, such as Asseyez-vous ! Levez la main ! and Qui a fini ? There are some greetings, such as Bonne journée ! and Bonjour tout le monde ! It’s important to build routines in the languages classroom, using only the target language, and avoiding translating everything orally when we speak to learners. It’s easy to develop conversational routines too, starting with greetings, and asking how people are - I generally do this with talk time, encouraging learners to ask each other how they are for example. The posters do show the English translation, as I’ve found that this facilitates learner understanding initially, and certainly helps them feel more confident in the very early stages. I explain that the words do not necessarily match correctly, for example Quel jour sommes-nous ? literally means What day are we? but translating correctly means recreating meaning in the second language: in English, we ask What is the date today? This is really useful knowledge for both current and future learning. I also move the posters around a little in our first lesson, and give learners sheets with certain expressions in English, and they walk around looking for the corresponding expression in French, writing it down on their sheet - I’ve included one of these in each set. I’ve found this to be a really successful way of getting learners to write and spell correctly in French, again from the very beginning of their learning. I definitely focus a lot on pronunciation, emphasizing that words often do not sound how they look - accurate pronunciation needs a lot of practice, and the written word can actually confuse learners unless we work on pronunciation and producing the accurate sounds of words, and look closely at linking spelling with sound. The expressions in Set 1 are: Let’s speak French; Hello everyone; Goodbye everyone; How are you?; I’m very well thanks; Sit down please; Stand up please; Look please; Listen please; Repeat please; Everyone together; Once again; Put your hands up; Don’t shout out; Put your hands down; Quietly please; Stop please; Put your things away; Well done The expressions in Set 2 are: Do you understand?; Yes, I understand; A volunteer please; Let’s start please; Put your pencils down; Open your workbooks; Close your workbooks; Who has finished?; I have finished; Louder please; Have a good day; Have a good weekend; Sit in a circle; What is your name?; My name is…; What is the date today?; The date us…; More quickly; More slowly; Very good There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or plain white, so 80 posters in total. The flag background will definitely use a lot of printer ink, but I always laminate my posters, so that I can use them for years. The plain white background looks great too! Have a browse in my store for more French classroom decor and flashcards, and a wide range of ther French teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles, resource boxes and freebies - I’ve included a couple here for you try. KS3 KS4 GERMAN PRONUNCIATION RHYMING WORDS PHONICS SPELLING PRACTICE - 99 WORDS FOCUSING ON PHONICS, SOUNDS AND RHYMES - CARDS AND WHOLE-GROUP PRONUNCIATION PRACTICE - 198 WORDS FOCUSING ON PHONICS, SOUNDS, SPELLING AND RHYMES - CARDS AND TWO WHOLE-GROUP PRONUNCIATION PRESENTATIONS @ £2.00 each in the bundle There are 198 cards featuring a range of sounds in German, and a whole-group presentation and practice resource. We revisit the activities frequently to help students develop phonic awareness and a thorough understanding of how German spelling and sounds work. I’ve found that students are quickly able to recognize sound patterns, enabling them to predict the pronunciation of new words accurately. The whole-group presentations are non-editable for copyright reasons, but move forward via a click as a slide show, with all the rhymes and corresponding sounds grouped together - I often use these at the beginning of the lesson, or a 5-minute pronunciation and speaking break during a lesson, again at very regular intervals. I always encourage students to look carefully at all parts of a particular word, not just the focus sound: for example Hochhaus - the focus sound is au, but the ch sound is equally important. The resource works well for my German students at all stages of learning, from beginner to advanced. We use the card template for students to add corresponding sounds/rhymes that they know, or learn, over time. I allocate 10-15 minutes frequently to focus on pronunciation and sounds - this really does help students develop authentic German pronunciation. Laminate the cards if possible - it’s definitely quite a bit of prep, but it’s well worth it in the longer-term - they are far more learner-friendly, and will remain in excellent condition for years. I’ve included a set without a background, as that is not as expensive to prep as the colour - I do create colour-coded sets for my students when I can, as it helps them to identify different resources, but they are fine without color too. I’ve also included a range of my popular *German *freebies that you may not have seen in my store. The files are non-editable for copyright reasons. They are copyright, all rights reserved. My younger students love to see Spanish displays in the classroom, and they also work really well for older beginner Spanish learners too. There are 25 vegetables, definite article, feminine and masculine, singular and plural, which is a really effective way of promoting discussion about the concept of gender in Spanish. I tend to vary my Spanish classroom displays quite regularly, and have different posters up at various times of the school year. We use them as***speaking and pronunciation prompts, and for guessing games too***. We don’t actually learn 25 vegetables at this stage, but I use a range that includes some that children may not know yet, such as asparagus and artichoke. That’s ideal for discussing healthy eating, and for generally developing children’s vocabulary in their own language too. The posters work really well as flashcards too, and they’re great for introducing and practising language with a ‘low-tech’ method, giving us all a break from the whiteboard, which children definitely enjoy. The vegetables are: artichoke; asparagus; beetroot; broccoli; cabbage; carrots; cauliflower; celery; corn; cucumber ; eggplants / aubergines; French / green beans; garlic;; leeks; lettuce; mushrooms; onions; peas ; red peppers ; yellow pepper; potatoes; sprouts; spinach; sweet potatoes; tomato The posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size; there are two backgrounds to choose from: Spanish flag or black wave, so 50 posters in all. The bundle is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. These Italian conversation cards are perfect for developing Italian speaking skills - there are 200 question and answer cards and two reference books focusing on building conversation. They’re also great for multi-skill language learning - they give students structured talk opportunities and will also get them listening, reading and writing. They’re ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work - my students frequently select the speaking and writing cards for their free-choice learning activity. The prompt cards feature language and structures that your students are likely to meet in the beginning and into intermediate stages of their Italian learning, including a range of tenses. They’re also useful for GCSE Italian revision. The reference books include all the questions and answers written out in Italian. Students find it a very useful learning support resources and it’s also handy for whole-group pronunciation and reading-out loud practice. Students use the Notes and Next Steps template to reflect on their learning, and think about what they might reasonably do to progress in their learning - we use this to guide and inform discussions we have as a whole-group about where students think they are at the moment, and what they think they might like to work a little more on. They also note ideas for creating their own questions, and any new vocab or structures they might learn. The question and answer card writing templates give students the opportunity to apply their Italian very practically, as they create both questions and answers for each other, using the reference book as a form of writing frame to help them form their language correctly. This is a great team activity too. We also use the cards for a whole range of games, and I’ve described how to play several you can start with that work really well for us. Have a browse in my store for more Italian independent learning activities, and a wide range of other Italian teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles, resource boxes, and lots of freebies - I’ve added a couple here for you to try. They may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. These activities really do help to create a lively language learning environment for young learners of French, and offer a popular alternative to more traditional, teacher-led***information about France*** lessons. Children can develop their knowledge of the francophone world - and through guided whole-group discussion - their home / host country too, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, in part independently of the teacher. There is a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling, and is a great way of aligning language learning with developing literacy skills in English. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: 20 facts cards - there are four facts in each of the following topic groups:geography, country, landmarks, language and food. There are blank templates for children to research and create their own facts cards for each other, and providing them with opportunity to apply learning and knowledge creatively. Over the school year, children should regularly add to their facts cards, which in time creates a fabulous bank of facts about France. Facts recording sheet challenge level 1 - there are two options: either two or four fact recording boxes per page. Children read their selected facts, and copy the information in the boxes. Facts recording sheet challenge level 2 - there are also two options: two or four fact recording boxes in this challenge level. However, there is a more open-ended task: responding to the question “What did you learn?”. This requires children to read their fact card, process the information, and then recreate it in their own words, describing the fact in the context of what they have learned. 24 question / comprehension cards — the questions have a differentiated range of challenge, and are based on the knowledge developed through the whole-group presentation and discussion, and the facts cards. There are some independent research questions, which I use as a springboard for further discussion based on children’s own developing interests about France. There are blank templates here too - creating questions is a great way to think about and apply knowledge and learning. question / comprehension cards recording sheet whole-group facts presentation & discussion MERCI BEACOUP, BON APPRENTISSAGE ET BON VOYAGE !

SPANISH-SPEAKING & PORTUGUESE-SPEAKING COUNTRIES POSTERS

(2)
BEGINNER SPANISH INTERMEDIATE SPANISH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES & PORTUGUESE-SPEAKING POSTERS FLASHCARDS 62 posters / flashcards featuring 21 Spanish-speaking countries and 10 Portuguese-speaking countries with the countries, capital cities and flags, in Spanish. I've found having the posters in my classroom provides an instant introduction to the scope of the Spanish-speaking world, and seeing the countries where Portuguese, rather than Spanish, is spoken, prevents them confusing the two from the very beginning of their learning - my students do often tend to get them a little mixed up! The posters are great for reading, speaking and pronunciation prompts too. I often ask quick questions such as ¿Cuál es la capital de...?, ¿Sí o no? Madrid es la capital de Paraguay? or ¿Se habla español o portugués en Brasil? - there are lots of questioning and speaking opportunities, using the posters as visual prompts. Speaking does tend to be quite a challenging skill, particularly for beginner language learners, so getting the most from classroom decor to encourage students to speak is really important. This works particularly with my beginner Spanish classes, as it's a great way of encouraging them to speak, and to construct sentences, from the very beginning of their Spanish program. I've often found that there can be several (or more!) countries that students don't actually know, or have never heard of, and the posters are really useful for helping them develop their general understanding and knowledge of the wider world. There are two backgrounds to choose from: Spanish / Portuguese flag or plain. Laminate them if you can, as they hang really well, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in great condition for years. Have a browse in my store for more Spanish-speaking countries resources, with a wide range of other Spanish teaching and learning resources, with Spanish dollar deals, special offer bundles and lots of freebies. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, regardless of level, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce accurately language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning. The questions feature a range of tenses and moods, such as the present tense, present subjunctive, perfect, imperfect, and conditional perfect. There are several questions focusing on wenn + subjunctive + conditional clauses, and a significant amount of implicit input on a range of grammatical concepts, such as word order with separable verbs in various tenses, um + zu clauses and so on. I try to include as broad a range of language as I can in the questions, as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also about*** actively learning*** it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning, which is just as important for more advanced learners. Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in German. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. The starters broadly address the following themes: music, film & television literature & culture :personal life, information & preferences : leisure & free time : health & well-being : history & society recent & current events : travel, tourism & holidays : technology & social media : likes & dislikes : local environment : environmental & social issues : education & studies Have a browse in my store for a wide range of German resources, including special offer bundles, German resource boxes, and lots of freebies.
